Physical Education

Waverley Meadows Primary School offers their students an hour P.E session a week with a quality and engaging program. With ample space including a basketball court, netball court, soccer field and AFL field students have the space to develop their skills across all areas of the curriculum.

We offer sequential units from Prep to Grade 6 where students develop, refine and explore their fundamental motor skills through drills and game situations.

We offer whole school sporting events, including House Sports, Cross Country, School Fun Run and a Twilight Family Sports to promote a sense of community and connectedness.

The Prep Physical Education Program is delivered through the school’s PMP program that helps students develop their gross motor skills.

Our Grade 5 and 6 students participate in Interschool Sports covering a variety of sports. Our teams are very successful and compete to their best of their abilities.

Our Prep – Grade 2 students are involved in an intensive swimming program every year.

We are also lucky to have various coaching clinics throughout the year, with expert coaches from local sporting clubs generously coming to work with our students.

With the Sporting Schools Government funding our students have the opportunity to learn from experienced coaches from various sports each term.

Art

Waverley Meadows Primary School offers students an hour a week participating in The Arts which includes both Music and Visual Arts.

In Music students are provided with the opportunity to make music through improvisation, listening, singing and playing. They develop music skills and knowledge and are encouraged to fully participate in all musical activities. A whole school musical production is performed every 2 years with students in years 5 & 6 performing the lead roles. Our production in 2018 of ‘The Billabong Prank’ was a highlight. Every alternate year we have a group of senior students dancing at the State School Spectacular. We are also very excited to be part of Wheelers Hill Secondary College’s production of ‘Singing in the Rain’ in 2019.

The Visual Arts program at Waverley Meadows develops students’ skills in art making and creating through the process of painting, drawing, construction, sculpture, collage, print making, threads and textiles. Students are exposed to varying techniques, equipment and media. Students learn to reflect on their own artworks as well as others’ creations as well as incorporating and recognising the various elements of line, shape, colour, value, form, texture and space in art.
